Four practical actions
- Map tasks, not headlines: identify tasks that may change in your field and abilities worth building.
- Protect worker voice: propose advance consultation, transparency about monitoring and meaningful opportunities to challenge consequential evaluation.
- Preserve income options: explore accredited training, community colleges, apprenticeships, lawful benefits and emergency budgeting.
- Build alternatives: consider worker cooperatives, shared tools, repair services and local ownership after honest feasibility analysis.
What evidence says
ILO research published in 2025 reported that one in four workers are in occupations with some generative-AI exposure, while job transformation is currently more likely than total replacement for most occupations. Exposure is not a prediction that one in four workers will become unemployed.
Proposed prevention campaigns
Advocate for worker consultation in AI procurement, responsible deployment, accessible training, portable credentials, safety-net continuity, and public evaluation of job impacts. Support policy changes through lawful, nonviolent participation.
