PREPARE / BUILD A PLAN
Your 72-hour continuity plan
Make a practical household plan for an ordinary outage or disruption. The information you type stays in your browser while this page is open.
Make one realistic plan
Start with what you have. Identify who needs help, where official alerts appear, how to contact one another, and what you will do if phones or power fail. Prepare for children, older adults, people with disabilities, pets, and medication needs.
Safety comes first
Store water and food safely; follow local boil-water notices. Never operate fuel-burning generators, grills, or camp stoves indoors or in enclosed spaces. If someone depends on powered medical equipment, create a medically appropriate backup and evacuation plan with qualified providers.
